Charles Manson â€Å"Helter Skelter† Criminology Professor Charles Manson â€Å"Helter Skelter† Charles Manson long and crazy life started at birth, and has not ceased since. He is still today one of the biggest icons in the murder mix, as being a serial killer. He is a man with many different powers and ways to draw people in. His long, hard, and crazy life all started with his mother, Kathleen â€Å"Kathy† Maddox. She was the youngest of three children born to Nancy and Charles Maddox, she ran away from her strict Fundamentalist Christian home when she was 15 years old to escape the cold, strict, and oppressive family (Sable, 2006). She was an alcoholic runaway at only 16 years old. In February 1951, Manson was arrested again in Beaver, Utah and sentenced for federal time because o f a series of stolen cars. He started off in a minimum-security establishment, Manson assaulted another inmate in January of 1952, he was caught holding a razor blade to the boy’s throat and sodomizing him (Zayyan). Manson was reclassified as â€Å"dangerous† and was transferred to a tougher lock up logging eight major disciplinary infractions, including three homosexual assaults by August of 1952 (Zayyan). He was then moved to Ohio reformatory a month later, and suddenly there he â€Å"turned† over a new leaf, becoming a â€Å"model† prisoner almost overnight, the cunning act was rewarding and he received parole in May of 1954. Following all of these crazy and different crimes in September 1955, Manson got off easy with five years probation, he celebrated by skipping a court date in Florida, and his probation was revoked, he was then picked up in Indianapolis on March 14, 1956, he was sent to the federal prison at Terminal Island, California, finally winning parole on September 30, 1958 (Zayyan).
